My Ultimate Beauty Book Collection- Bloguary Day 5

Ok I have a problem

I love beauty and everything related to it. Yours truly also is a bookworm. Very big bookhead. Added to this, I may have a hoardi…erm collecting situation. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Therefore it can be successfully concluded that I love Beauty Books. Lots of them. Some would call this a cornucopia of reading material…a collection. I call this my Ultimate Beauty Book Selection.

  • Sali Hughes Pretty Iconic.

Sali Hughes is one of the most talented journalists that we have in the UK. She’s not only a prolific writer, she’s also a beauty journalist with a column in the Guardian. This is her second book ( the first; Pretty Honest is my ultimate guide to all things beauty) and is all about products that made the Icon list. Pretty Iconic is a visual and breathtaking book which is a literal feast for the beauty nerd in me. I have read this over and over, not to mention shed a tear or two when she talks about Old Spice. Go buy it. You won’t regret it.

  • Lisa Eldridge Face Paint

Lisa needs no introduction, She’s one of Britain’s leading makeup artists and a consultant to Lancome. This book is the ultimate pit stop for makeup afficianados. It’s a visual fest with stunning photography, but also a history of makeup. This book is so fascinating and every beauty lover worth their salt should have one in their bookshelf.

  • Bobbi Brown Beauty: The Ultimate Beauty Resource

Bobbi Brown needs no introduction. She is crediting for singlehandedly mainstreaming ethnic beauty ( hello 40 shades in the 90’s) and introducing the iconic and timeless nude shades ( note the plural as she pioneered the idea that nude isnt universal in makeup. Till date, a makeup novice can go to a BB counter reassured that they will be catered for. Hence this book by the iconic Lady herself is no less. If there is only one slot in your library for a beauty book. This should be it.

  • Skin Deep Women on Skincare, Makeup and Looking their Best by Bee Shapiro

Bee Shapiro is a New York Times Columnist ( she writes on beauty amongst other topics ) and her delving articles into celebrity makeup and skincare bags and orutines are the basis of this book. I must admit that since I bought this book off of Amazon, it’s all I’ve been reading. Call it my guilty pleasure, except I don’t believe in being guilty about my small pleasures, if anything not enjoying the little pleasures should make one guilty. So hedonistic… I know! And I segue ๐Ÿ˜‰ This book is a feast for the beauty voyeur and the celebrities span all ages, ethnicities etc. This is one I return to over and over again.

  • Kevyn Aucoin Making Faces

You know that Kim K contoured look? Kevyn Aucoin was doing that years ago way back in the 90’s. Way before Instagram. He was a true visonary and knew make up faces of all shapes and sizes. His books were and are truly mindblowing. Making Faces is out of print, you have to trawl through second hand sellers on Amazon to find one. But if you just want a visual and highly informative beauty fest. You really need to find his books. Especially this one. And whilst you’re trawling, go Netflix his documentary it’s fascinating.

  • The Little book of Skincare: Korean Secrets for Healthy, Glowing Skin by Charlotte Cho

Korean Beauty nerds alert! This book makes you want to buy everything in the suggestions list. And eat Kimchi and move to Seoul. There are no photographs but you seriously don’t need them ( I can’t believe I’m saying this, exceptions to my rule of visual feasts)

I wish I could say that I’m done…

But I’d be telling porkies. And that’s wrong right? I cannot imagine never being without a book. or two. So this list will always be added to. But replaced? No! I think the above bibliograph is a classic. And just like red lipstick ( oooh spoiler alert ;)) these books will always be read, re-read and cherished.

Do you enjoy reading beauty books? What do you think of this collection? I’d love to hear from you. Love ~~ Elle xx
